The Himalayan Landslide Society (HiLS) organized the 11th International Symposium on Mitigation of Geo-disaster in Asia (MGDA-11) on 22-28 October 2013. The chief guest for the inauguration of the symposium was the current Chairman of Cabinet of Nepal and de facto Prime Minister Khil Raj Regmi. The symposium consisted of a key note lecture by Prof. Robin Chowdhury, University of Wollongong, Australia and special lectures from many distinguished personnel including Prof. Dr. Masakatsu Miyajima, Prof. Dr. Monique Fort, Mike G. Winter, Dr. Ko‐Fie Liu, Dr. Binod Tiwar and Dr. Tonglu Li.
Apart from the special lectures, more than 60 technical papers were presented. Prashidha Kharel from GHEaSES International presented a paper on “Hazard Rating and Event Tree Analysis for assessing Rockfall Risks along Siddhartha Highway in Siddhababa Area, Nepal” which was partly based on the geotechnical survey and report on Rockfalls in Siddhababa Area prepared by Dr. Shanker Dhakal and his team from Beam Consultant and GHEaSES International in 2012.
